Martha Tilston is a contemporary folk performer and film-maker, whose poetic lyricism and engaging performances have earned her a devoted following.
She has independently released 10 albums on her Squiggly Records label, written, directed and starred in her own feature-length 2021 film The Tape and was nominated for Best Arts Film at the 2019 Celtic Media Festival.
Early in her career, she was nominated for a BBC Radio 2 Best Newcomer Folk Award and contributed to Zero 7’s Yeah Ghost album. Martha grew up immersed in music. Her folk singer father Steve Tilston and step-mother Maggie Boyle were obvious influences, with their musician friends Bert Jansch, John Renbourn and John Martin often gathering and singing in the family kitchen.
Her latest album Luminous (2023) weaves ethereal soundscapes with reflections on nature and connection.
A regular on the festival circuit, she has performed on Glastonbury’s Acoustic Stage and headlined the 2024 Purbeck Valley Folk Festival with a 20-piece choir. Known for intimate live shows blending folk and electronica, she will be appearing with musician Matt Kelly as they continue to tour sold-out shows.
